Rising Stars and Sir John Leman’s RAG week

Members of Rising Stars show off their skills during Sir John Leman’s RAG week

RAG Week (Raising and Giving) is an annual event organised by the Sir John Leman Sixth Form Council and assisted by students at the High School.
This year, past and present members of Rising Stars have taken the opportunity to show off skills and talents developed at Rising Stars.
Some of the things the council have done on the run up to RAG week are very similar to those required for a Rising Stars show, such as planning the whole event from scratch, keeping finances and balancing a budget, fundraising and recruiting volunteers, creating the stage and decorating the set, programming and controlling a DMX lighting system, setting up and balancing microphones and sound equipment, taking to the stage as a presenter or in musical performances, all while working together as a team to get the job done.
They are hoping to raise raising £600 to split between their three chosen charities – Beccles Men’s Shed, Alzheimer’s UK & Aluwani South Africa.
There is still time to help them achieve their goal. For more information and to donate, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/2018ragweek

Armistice Day 2018 – Rising Stars will Never Forget….

Members of Rising Stars laid a wreath at the Beccles War Memorial to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War One.

In 2014, Rising Stars marked the centenary of the start of WW1 during their production of ‘Til the Boys Come Home’. The group also wanted to remember the anniversary of Armistice Day by taking part in the annual wreath laying ceremony at the Beccles memorial.

“It was an honour to lay a wreath to remember the fallen from Beccles” said one member. “I have been lucky enough to visit some of the WW1 cemeteries in northern France where Beccles men are buried, so seeing their names on the memorial always reminds me to be grateful.”

In addition to the wreath-layers, other members of Rising Stars were at the service representing the Sea Cadets, Marine Cadets and Girl Guiding Beccles.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

We have a cast for RJ

After 2 days of auditions hearing lots of talented young performers, WE HAVE A CAST FOR RJ – A ROCK MUSICAL!!

Huge congratulations to everyone who auditioned. Each and every one of you did yourself proud.

Many thanks to the audition panel for making the most difficult decisions.

First Rehearsal for ‘RJ – A Rock Musical’

We’re all looking forward to our first rehearsal tonight for RJ – A Rock Musical.

We will be starting to learn the Company audition piece plus running through all the principal audition songs to give cast members a better idea of what they might like to audition for.

It will really help potential cast members if they can download the audition lyrics from our secure downloads area and bring them to rehearsal.

Even if you missed our Information Evening last week it’s not too late to get involved. Just turn up to the Blyburgate Hall for a 7pm start.

We’re in the local paper

Details of our Information Evening were in the Beccles and Bungay Journal this week.

We’re looking forward to seeing lots of old faces and hopefully some new ones at the Information Evening this Friday.

Information Evening for our next production

It’s time to brush up your Shakespeare as Rising Stars start the search for the cast of their next fully-staged production. ‘RJ – A Rock Musical’ is based on the classic story of Romeo and Juliet but with a fresh, youthful dimension and modern twist.

Rising Stars are looking for talented singers and actors (especially boys!) between 11 and 19 years of age to perform in this modern and musical adaptation as well as anyone who would like to be involved in the technical aspects of a show, such as set design, costumes, sound & lighting.

To launch the search, Rising Stars are holding an Information Evening at 7pm on Friday 14th September in the Blyburgate Hall, Beccles. The evening will give all prospective cast members the opportunity to find out more about the show, meet the production team and get more details about how to audition to be in the cast or for a principal role.

Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare’s classic tragedy of doomed teenage love and the story fits perfectly with the age range of Rising Stars. This rock musical version by Joy Ardy and Andrew Milburn combines the Bard’s original prose interwoven with new lines and musical numbers in a variety of modern styles, including rap music.
