NODA Award success for Rising Stars

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR ANYONE INVOLVED WITH RISING STARS

We’ve recently learnt that Rising Stars’ production of ‘Romeo & Juliet – A Rock Musical’ in March last year has been nominated for an award by the National Operatic & Dramatic Association (NODA). We are on the shortlist for ‘Best Youth Production 2019’ in District 6.

NODA are such experts in amateur theatrical productions that to be recognised by them in any capacity is a real achievement. The overall winner won’t be announced until a Gala Awards Ceremony next month, but just being nominated means that ‘Romeo & Juliet – A Rock Musical’ was one of the top three youth productions in the area.

BUT THE GOOD NEWS KEEPS COMING!

At the Gala Award ceremony, Rising Stars member Amelia Parker will be presented with the NODA District 6 Award for ‘Best Young Performer’. Her performance as Juliet’s Nurse in ‘R&J’ was noted as showing style and expression with excellent stage awareness and we are delighted that her outstanding performance has been recognised in a particularly competitive year.

These nominations and awards are a testament to the talent and hard work of all the young cast, the production and technical teams and to everyone involved with Rising Stars so I hope you are all as absolutely thrilled as we are.

Tickets go on sale for RJ – A Rock Musical

Tickets are now on sale for Rising Stars’ forthcoming production of ‘RJ – A Rock Musical’.

The cast of talented 9 to 19 year olds are currently putting their finishing flourishes to this tragic tale which will be staged nightly in Beccles Public Hall & Theatre from Thursday 21st to Saturday the 23rd March at 7.30pm.
‘RJ – The Rock Musical’ is based on Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s classic tragedy of doomed teenage love between two rival families. Staying faithful to the original work by Shakespeare, this rock musical version by Joy Ardy and Andrew Milburn combines the Bard’s original prose interwoven with new lines and musical numbers with a modern twist, while still allowing you to follow the tale of Romeo and his dearest Juliet throughout the fine city of Verona. Fully costumed and accompanied by a live band, this is one Rising Stars’ show not to be missed.

‘RJ – A Rock Musical’ is the next fully staged show in an ever growing line of successful musical productions by the Beccles-based musical theatre group, whose previous credits have included ‘Les Misérables’, ‘Seussical’ and ‘Treasure Island’. Although the majority of the cast are under 18, they pride themselves on bringing the high quality and professionalism that you would expect of any theatre company to all of their performances.

Tickets for ‘RJ – A Rock Musical’ are priced at £10 for adults and £7.50 for under 18s and can be purchased either by visiting Beccles Public Hall Box Office or by telephoning 01502 770060. The Box Office is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm and accepts both debit and credit cards. Tickets can also be purchased online at any time from the Beccles Public Hall Online Box Office

TALENTED YOUNG PERFORMERS REQUIRED FOR MODERN ROCK MUSICAL

It’s time to brush up your Shakespeare as Rising Stars start the search for the cast of their next fully-staged production. ‘RJ – A Rock Musical’ is based on the classic story of Romeo and Juliet but with a fresh, youthful dimension and modern twist.

Rising Stars are looking for talented singers and actors (especially boys!) between 11 and 19 years of age to perform in this modern and musical adaptation as well as anyone who would like to be involved in the technical aspects of a show, such as set design, costumes, sound & lighting.

To launch the search, Rising Stars are holding an Information Evening at 7pm on Friday 14th September in the Blyburgate Hall, Beccles. The evening will give all prospective cast members the opportunity to find out more about the show, meet the production team and get more details about how to audition to be in the cast or for a principal role.

Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare’s classic tragedy of doomed teenage love and the story fits perfectly with the age range of Rising Stars. This rock musical version by Joy Ardy and Andrew Milburn combines the Bard’s original prose interwoven with new lines and musical numbers in a variety of modern styles, including rap music.
